Keeping Coffee Beans Fresh?
I've just kind of gotten into the coffee thing over the past couple of years, and just wanted to acquire some knowledge from you guys. I tend to buy the one pound bag of coffee beans from starbucks. I grind them at home, and most of the time use a french press when I've got the time.
My question is...Is there any need to keep the actual coffee beans in a sealed container/freezer? I've read and heard the best way to have a fresh cup is to grind your own beans (which I do), but I was wondering if taking better care of the beans before grinding would also add a lot to the richness of the cup of coffee.
Keep them in a sealed jar or re-seal the bag. Air is not bad for them, it makes them go stale. You can keep them in the fridge, but I don't think that really helps that much. And the freezer is a no-no because it makes moisture condense on them. You should use them within a couple of weeks, and within a few minutes of grinding.
The French Press is great! I use one when both me and my Sweetie want coffee. But for just one cup I use an Aeropress. Look it up. It costs about $20 and it works really great!
I actually roast my own coffee. Once you taste your own home roast, you'll never be happy with Starbucks again. 8^)
