Why haven't I lost weight ?
I have been exercising diligently for 3 weeks now. I work out EVERY single day for 1 hour (cardio+2 pound weights for toning).
When I wake up. I'll have a Slim Fast meal replacement shake.
Then for lunch I will usually make a fruit smoothie (frozen berries, 1 banana, half a cup of orange juice and half a cup of half and half)
Then for a snack I will have 1 piece of fiber bread with a tablespoon of peanut butter and maybe I'll eat a grapefruit or something.
All I do is drink water. I don't drink soda, or coffee, or energy drinks or gatorade.
I just don't understand why I haven't lost any weight !!!!
I still weigh exactly the same as I started 3 weeks ago.
What do I need to do ?
Increase my workouts to 2 hours a day or should I incorporate a diet pill or something ???
You're likely building muscle mass while you're losing the fat. Muscle, since it weighs more than fat, could be covering the fat loss.
Also sounds like you're probably way below your recommended caloric intake. If you stray too low your body goes into starvation mode and stores every calorie as fat for when it needs it. Most people recommend eating a lot of small meals during the day, (5-6), just limiting proportions so that your metabolism is always up while you're digesting and your body doesn't think its starving.
I started dieting (and I use the term dieting loosely) recently, cutting out a lot of the fats and the soda, drinking more water, but still maintainnig healthy meals. Wake up with a Yoplait 100 cal yogurt, couple hours later 1/2 turkey sub from subway, couple hours later an orange or apple for some natural sugar, couple hours later the other half of the turkey sub from subway, another yogurt (or lowcal lowfat ice cream) around 7pm (i try not to eat after 7) and then no more eating til the next day, just drink a lot of water if i feel hungry.
Adding 1/2 hour of cardio and about 1/2 of heavy duty moving stuff around at the house/painting/varnishing the deck that i like to think of as easy weight training seems to have me dropping .5 lbs a day
The other thing i added to my diet was a multi-vitamin multi-mineral supplement (i use centrum personally) and a slimquick "diet supplement" which i'm not sure is doing anything. the second pill has green tea in it, which i'll admit, tastes like poo when you put it in your mouth to swallow it, but it has a decent amount of caffeine and other nutrients that give me plenty of energy to keep active during the entirety of the day.
Just a best guess though, i'm not a doctor nor a long-time dieter, but I did a lot of research when starting my own =)
This wasnt the exact website I used but http://www.caloriesperhour.com/tutorial_need.php and then the page after with calculating your bmr really helped me to figure out how many calories i needed to ingest to maintain my current weight. The site that I was on then told me to go about 500-1000 calories below that per day to get recommended weightloss (not too much but not too little to be healthy), but not to drop below 1200 calories for the entire day if you're sedentary (which i see you're not) and don't require as much.
That's about all I've got though ^_^" hope it helped a little
