Is strong coffee just regular plain coffee?
A recipe is requiring 1/3 cup of strong coffee. Is that just making a cup of coffee and not adding anything to it? Sorry this sounds really stupid!
A recipe calling for strong coffee does mean black coffee (no cream or sugar). But it is also referring to coffee brewed with a high coffee-to-water ratio.
To brew coffee, most people use anywhere from 1Tb (weaker coffee) - 2Tb (stronger coffee) of ground coffee per 6 oz of water.
For whatever amount you are brewing, I would brew on the higher end of that ratio, or even a little more.
It is hard to properly brew very small amounts of coffee in a regular automatic drip machine because there isn't enough time to extract the flavor. If you are using auto drip, you might want to brew a cup or two. Use 1/3 cup in your recipe and drink or dump the rest.
